Stop Food Waste NYC

On September 27th, 2019, the team behind Stop Food Waste Day and NY Common Pantry are hosting the first Stop Food Waste NYC event at the Javits Center to coincide with New York Climate Week. Stop Food Waste NYC is an interactive teaching market with vendors, speakers, and partners with a focus on teaching guests what they can do to make a difference and reduce food waste. This free event will feature many vendors such as Big Geyser, Vita Coco, White Moustache, Spare Foods, Regrained, and the Bread Gal, all who have the mission to deliver products that are low in waste, yet delicious in taste. Restaurants Associates and Levy are serving as the leading partners for the event yet suppliers such as Gotham Seafood and Baldor Specialty Foods are joining the cause.

Stop Food Waste NYC will feature speakers like Danielle Nierenberg from Foodtank, Dana Gunders formerly from the NRDC, Ed Brown from Restaurant Associates, Katy Franklin from ReFed, Charlotte Douglas from Row 7 Seeds along with Tristram Stuart, the keynote speaker of the event from Toast Ale, and many others!

Stop Food Waste NYC derives from Stop Food Waste Day, which is a global day of awareness with the aim to bring attention to the global food waste problem as well as teach people how they can make a difference every day. Back in April, Stop Food Waste Day reached over 89 million participants in 100 countries over social media, with over 227 million digital views from media coverage. Coast-to-Coast mayors proclaimed April 24, 2019, Stop Food Waste Day including Charlotte, Denver, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, Seattle, and Toronto.

Stop Food Waste NYC hopes to not only share their vision to reduce food waste amongst thousands but to raise appreciation for feeding the food insecure. Stop Food Waste NYC has additionally partnered with NY Common Pantry and will be asking for donations at this event to spread that message.
